Perfumed blackberries and sage mingle with crushed rocks and hints of olive tapenade as the 2023 Aglianico del Vulture Sceg evolves in the glass. It’s surprisingly soft and round with ripe wild berry fruits and nuances of citrus, all elevated by juicy acidity as sweet spice emerges toward the close. This combines structure with energy, finishing fresh, long and classically dry with a lingering tart berry concentration.

The 2023 Aglianico del Vulture Sceg was created by the creative and dynamic vintner Elena Fucci as a means of creating a more approachable side to this hearty grape grown on volcanic soils in Southern Italy. The style is bright and punchy with tart cherry, redcurrant and light dustings of crushed white peppercorn. This release of 7,000 bottles ferments in stainless steel and ages in tonneaux for eight months plus six months in bottle. The fruit is sourced from the Vigneto Catavatta at 550 meters in elevation.

Black licorice, milled pepper and tar-tinged smoke notes lead the way in this firm red, accenting flavors of black raspberry coulis and dark chocolate as they wrap around a core of dense tannins. The overtone of medicinal herbs and spices echoes on the finish. Best from 2028 through 2036. 600 cases made, 450 cases imported.
