Christophe Cordier’s wines all show an impeccably clean character (not surprising when you see his winery), and this one leads the pack in that regard. From a 0.9ha parcel of vines on mostly limestone and ranging from 60 to 80 years old, the 2023 Vers Cras 1er Cru walks a fine line between the power of Pouilly-Fuisse and the finesse of Puligny. The nose boasts a thrilling combination of pure, stony terroir and deep, well-defined fruit – ripe pear, white peach, and mango come to mind. It’s really quite the juxtaposition. Just a touch of perceptible oak on the medium-weight palate, but it’s already starting to integrate well. The depth of Fuisse shines here, with an abundance of tree fruit, almost tropical in intensity, all supported by a superbly balanced frame, offering signature evidence of the Vers Cras limestone playing its part. It’s an excellent representation of a great site, from a winemaker that more Burgundy aficionados should get to know.

A strong phenolic character stops short of dominates the slightly exotic nose of white peach, orange peel and passion fruit. There is both slightly better volume and density to the beautifully textured middle weight flavors that also flash focused power on the more complex and persistent finale. This is lovely and well-worth your interest.
