With more depth and saturation than the 2024, the 2023 Chianti Classico shows ripe cherry, grenadine, floral tones, and a savory edge. Medium-bodied, it has more substance through the tannin structure while maintaining good acidity and balance. It’s a more complete and layered expression of the vintage. Drink 2026-2040.

Linear and fresh, with cherries, red plums, mild spices and stones on the nose. Medium-bodied with a savory touch, showing a core of vivid red fruit and a minerally finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold.

The 2023 Chianti Classico is a very pretty, classy wine that captures the essence of Radda in its bright, lifted personality. Crushed flowers, chalk, mint, white pepper and cranberry all grace this perfumed, lithe Chianti Classico.

Starts out with tart cherry, currant, earth, mineral and tobacco flavors on a juicy profile that quickly yields to dense, mouthpuckering tannins. Nonetheless, this isn’t overly astringent and lingers nicely. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2027 through 2032. 14,000 cases made.

The nose opens with tangy, tart fruit, then turns savory and umami with aromas of low tide, damp earth, graphite and pepper. Bing cherries and orange slices carry the palate, before a hot, textured finish of black pepper and sandy tannins.

The Mascheroni Stianti family has owned Castello di Volpaia since 1966. Not just a winery but a medieval hamlet, it is nestled at the region’s highest reaches. Cool heights are evoked by pristine, limpid scents of delicate white blossoms and orange citrus in the 2024. Earthy tones emerge on the palate – but really it is the bright red cherry that comes to the fore. Bouncy acidity accentuates the fresh, clean sensation. A bit of Merlot helps fill this out, making for an almost midweight proposition. Finishes with a pleasing herbal twist.
