On the Flagey side, east facing, oolites and clay without a huge amount of topsoil. A little more crimson in colour, a little less immediate on the nose, with darker fruit and a touch of salinity on the palate. Complex, brooding wine. A few more tannins, but still a mineral feel. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru presents an understated bouquet that requires coaxing from the glass, revealing a mélange of dark berry fruit, wild hedgerow and light leafy scents. It shows fine delineation and is very pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, offering more depth than the Les Hauts Mazičres and a harmonious finish. It's certainly more suited for early drinking than previous vintages, yet it translates Clavelier's classy winemaking.
