Vinified in concrete tanks and partially destemmed, the 2023 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Tradition opens with aromas of spices, smoke and dark wild berries. Medium- to full-bodied, enveloping and concentrated, it is ample and well-balanced, built around a dense, gently grippy core of fruit and concluding with a penetrating, persistent finish. Matured for 12 months in a mix of foudres, large barrels and concrete tanks, this blend of 75% Grenache Noir, 11% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre and small proportions of Cinsault, Vaccarèse and Counoise (1% each) is more introverted at this stage than its 2022 counterpart.

Based on 75% Grenache and the rest a mix of varieties, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape was vinified with 40% stems and brought up in foudre and cuve as well as a small percentage in demi-muids. Ripe, round, and sexy on the palate, with medium body, it offers ripe kirsch and black cherries intermixed with spice and peppery garrigue nuances. It's balanced with soft tannins and shows the forward style of the vintage. It will drink beautifully over the coming 10-12 years. Drink 2025-2037.

Bottled in March 2025, the sexy 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Tradition mixes 75% Grenache with 11% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, the remainder equally divided between Cinsault, Vaccarèse and Counoise. Strawberry jam, stemmy gradations and dried herbs soar from the glass, leading into a full-bodied, seamlessly structured red Châteauneuf that checks out with notable persistence on the spicy finish.
