While Tignanello gets all (or almost all) the attention in the Marchesi Antinori stable, the Guado al Tasso wines have started to gain some serious traction of their own among Italian fans, and they now stand apart from their more famous sibling in all the right ways.
This latest set of new releases show the unmatched pedigree of Antinori, from the sterling quality of the fruit, to the clear terroir signatures, to the precise and meticulous winemaking. The entry-level Il Bruciato has fast made a name for itself as one of the great Super Tuscan value performers in the market, and the 93-point 2023 delivers on this reputation. "Full-bodied ... generous and rounded, with supple ripe tannins providing a fleshy sensation through the finish," notes Audrey Frick, writing for Jeb Dunnuck. The blend of all five Bordeaux varietals makes for an easy to enjoy, go-to option with an added dimension of Antinori class.
Speaking of which, that same class is on full display in the towering 2021 Guado al Tasso. Racking up a bevy of outstanding press headlined by Galloni's massive 98-point review, the 2021 is a wine of "gorgeous sophistication" as described by James Suckling, marked by "crazy aromatic presence and feel" thanks to an elevated percentage of Cabernet Franc in the blend, which plays perfectly against the stunning quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon in this vintage. "The pedigree and purity of this red are evident immediately," notes Wine Spectator, as we'd fully expect from the hallowed cellars of Marchesi Antinori. |
