First made in 2016 as a single vineyard release from older vines, the 2023 Cornas Chapelle Saint Pierre is perfumed, exotic, and floral on the nose, with ripe blue fruits, violets, graphite, and pepper, along with a bright, piercing sense of minerality. It's medium to full-bodied and has ripe, firmer tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length on the finish. Aged 20 months in 228-liter oak barrels with no new oak, this shows the quality of this newer bottling and is well worth seeking out. It should benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and evolve for 20 years or more. Drink 2030-2043.

The 2023 Cornas Chapelle Saint-Pierre, sourced from one of the highest sites in the appellation, at around 400 meters in elevation, was matured for 20 months in barrels of one to three wines, with no new oak. It reveals a ripe, spicy bouquet of dark berries, baked mulberries, licorice and zan (anise-flavored licorice candy). Medium- to full-bodied, structured and deep, it’s built around a straight, tensile core of fruit and framed by balanced, finely integrated tannins. Less about power than precision, it expresses itself through tension and an ethereal profile, concluding with a distinctive saline finish. This is a precise and particularly refined rendition in the historical style of Alain Voge.

Concentrated and taut, featuring stylish notes of smoked plum, olive paste, lavender, oregano and smoldering incense, plus a fresh jolt of green herbs. Singed wood spice, clove and nutmeg add warmth, while formidable tannins dominate the full yet racy finish, which is bolted down with iron. Best from 2027 through 2037. 330 cases made, 15 cases imported.
