The 2023 Vogelsang Neustadt Riesling VDP.Grosse Lage is from pure Muschelkalk soils and opens with a pure yet intense and mineral as well as sur lie-scented nose of very fine Riesling berries. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, pure, saline and crunchy Riesling whose style is clearly aligned with the Pinot Noir. This is based on vines planted in the early 1980s and a very small part of very young vines from 2019. 12% stated alcohol. Diam 30 cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2024.

The striking nose of lemon curd pulls you inexorably into this masterpiece of northerly riesling elegance, from a region where warmth and generosity prevail. Excellent concentration without a hint of weight. It is this delicacy that makes the wine so compelling. I love the elegance of the very long and precise finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Riesling Neustadter Vogelsang Grosses Gewächs is grown on Triassic limestone, rising up to 320 meters and benefiting from cooler winds at night but facing due south. Just a touch of spice, reminiscent of cumin seed, appears on the shy nose. The palate is slender and traces a central spine of citric brightness that is luminous and seems to sink deep into the soil. It is strait-laced, lemony, taut, bright, vivacious, pristine and pure. (Bone-dry)
