"I was blown away by the wines I tasted from Vincent Cuillier this year ... I can’t recommend these upcoming releases highly enough." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Our Champagne team's meeting with the highly talented Vincent Cuillier at Wine Paris was quick but was still more than enough time to see that this young vigneron is about to break out in a huge way. Working from choice sites on the Massif de Saint-Thierry on the Montagne de Reims, Vincent is treading a path adopted by many of Champagne's most visionary young talents. He's devotedly pursuing polyculture in his vineyards in pursuit of pristine ecological balance and purer reflection of individual terroir in his wines.
The Blanc de Noirs Fusion (base vintage 2022) is a new wine Cuillier's line-up, blending Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Montagne de Reims in a thrilling interplay of concentration and tension, the former resulting from the exceptional vintage and the latter from Cuillier's utterly refined winemaking style. As Galloni notes in his 95-point review, "Readers will find a Champagne of real breadth and texture. I loved it."
The 2022 Brut Nature Chemin des Rois, 70% Pinot Noir and the balance Chardonnay, is a showpiece of Cuillier's vision and talent come to fruition. "All the elements are so well balanced. The purity of the fruit, the definition, the balance—everything is so profoundly beautiful," declares Galloni in his 97-point review. Indeed, this wine is a study in both definition and power, with the purity and weight of the fruit and the bedrock of the Massif coming through in stark, parallel clarity.
Finally, the 96-point 2022 Blanc de Noirs Clos Forestier showcases how well Pinot Noir thrives in the Massif. This terroir northwest of Reims is a shelter vineyard, a "clos" of sorts formed by the surrounding forest, where the root systems of the vines and trees interact and intertwine in incredible fashion. It's the ultimate expression of Vincent's vision of polyculture. As with the other two cuvées, Galloni waxes poetic here as well: "Bright, punchy and explosive, the 2022 offers a compelling mix of vibrant fruit and saline, mineral-drenched energy. This feels so alive, so full of life."
We can't emphasize the kind of top-tier results Cuillier is achieving, and we're unbelievably thrilled to get in on the ground floor with this undeniable rising star in grower Champagne.
