The super-versatile and charming G.D. Vajra 2022 Barolo Albe mirrors the personality of a hot, dry vintage that delivers concentrated Nebbiolo flavors of blackcurrant, cherry and rose. The Albe bottling takes its name from the sunrises visible from the high-elevation vineyards used for this blend, with fruit sourced from several sites across Barolo to capture balance and complexity even in warmer years. There are earthy aromas as well and a hint of sweet orange. Darkly ripened fruit leads to solid tannins and rich concentration with enough stuffing to make this a great Barolo for near- or medium-term drinking.

A medium ruby color, the 2022 Barolo Albe marks the 50th vintage of this cuvée. Aromas of fresh cherries, spice, and ripe orange peel lead into a medium-bodied palate with purity and polish. Already quite appealing, this is a wine I would happily order by the glass, and it should drink beautifully over the coming decade. Drink 2026-2036.

There is something immediately joyful about this, crushed strawberries and their freshly torn tops macerating together with a lift of flowers that makes the whole thing feel bright and completely alive. Green herbal notes and plush fruit find a beautiful and natural balance while the finish is easy, pretty and effortlessly classic. Albe at its most charming and completely impossible to resist.
