A kitchen sink wine of sorts from a Willamette Valley winemaking family that dates back 50 years. The Evolution Red is a blend of several red grapes, including Pinot Noir, and the wine includes some of their Evolution White Wine. Call it your hamburger or Pizza wine, but don't call it dull or one-dimensional. Bright fruit notes play the lead on the aromatics, but lavender and red florals play a supporting role. The palate is juicy and ripe but oh so fresh. Flavours of red cranberries, tart early-season blackberry and a note of savoury herbs rescue us from monotony in the under $20 price category. The kicker for this well-priced wine is the bright acidity that keeps it lively through a long finish.
