The 2022 Pinot Gris Rangen Clos Saint Théobald Grand Cru is from parcels in the midslope and top of Rangen. This contains a small portion of botrytised fruit. Again, the wine is very pale. The nose does not give too much away. The palate is gently sweet and presents a certain solidity with immense power, so dense is the body. Subtle bitterness makes the mouth water deliciously, casting its radicchio spell to corral all this richness into a straight line, driving forward with immense force and energy. Unbelievable. The 30g/L of residual sweetness suits it well but tastes nowhere near as sweet. (Off-Dry)

Bottled with 32 grams of residual sugar per liter, the 2022 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Rangen Clos Saint-Théobald is clear and intense on the saline and slightly smoky nose. Rich and savory on the palate, this is a clean and precise, powerful but elegant and savory Pinot Gris that doesn't taste sweet but enormously rich. Yet its richness is uplifted by minerals and even a salivating saline acidity as well as crunchy tannins and fine citrus fruit bitters. This is an age-worthy and complex Pinot Gris that can be enjoyed for decades. 14.3% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Colmar, November 2024.
