Produced from Billaud's own grapes, 80% in tank with 20% matured in barrels for a year, before a further year in tank after blending. Very stony soils with old vines and low-yields around 35hl/ha. A denser hue than some. Crisp acidity, lovely texture of apple and a touch of stone fruit with plenty of acidity and pronounced salinity to finish.

Samuel has three plots, from bottom to top, with vine ages respectively of 85, 35 and 70 years. Pale clear lemon colour. Just a little spice on the nose, but not exotic. Very tightly wound, all white fruit with youthful bitterness. Hard to judge but I think this could become very exciting. Such purity. Drink from 2027-2034.

As one would expect in a vintage like 2022, there is a suggestion of the exotic lurking in the background of the ripe nose of white-fleshed fruit, wet stone and shellfish scents. The rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful medium weight plus flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering fine length on the balanced finale. This does however need to develop more depth though that should reasonably occur if allowed at least a few years of bottle aging. Worth checking out. *Outstanding*
