The 2022 Roda is perhaps more black-fruited than red in this very warm and dry vintage. Produced with a blend of Tempranillo with 6% Garnacha and 5% Graciano, it fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in 50/50 new and second-use French barriques for 14 months. It's spicy and more Mediterranean, with notes of aromatic herbs and a medium- to full-bodied palate, good ripeness, a moderate (for the year) 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.58 and 5.8 grams of acidity. It has slightly more rustic tannins this year. It calls for food. 149,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

A warmer expression defines the 2022 Roda (91% Tempranillo, 7% Garnacha, 2% Graciano), aged for 16 months in French oak, one-third new. Ripe plum and blackberry unfold alongside tobacco and assertive élevage notes, the oak neatly framing the aromatics. Dry and marked by elevated grip, its notably reactive tannins reflect the warm year, yet freshness and drive remain intact. A modern Rioja that will benefit from time to settle.
