The 2022 Volare del Camino opens on an initially introverted note, slowly revealing a red bouquet accented with turned earth, chalk dust and dried herbal notes rendered with grace and understatement. The palate showcases the refinement and lacy texture that characterizes this single parcel, concluding with an extremely fine-grained finish that continues to swell with further aeration. While I found this a touch more closed down than the other Per Se 2022s, it is far from lacking and could merit a higher score with a bit more time in bottle.

Sourced from 16 vine rows planted in the Monasterio area of Gualtallary, the 2022 Malbec Volare spent up to 14 months in oak barrels. Deep purple in hue, it reveals floral aromas alongside notes of grapefruit, cherry and sour cherry. There’s a hint of sage and intense fruit like elderberry. Delicate, with chalky tension and juiciness, the palate offers concentrated yet vibrant fruit, finishing with a subtle tea note. This is an astonishing, nuanced wine with a textured palate that reflects its high-elevation origins.
