A fine mid purple, the bouquet follows in the path of the village Chambolle but with much greater density. Splendid purity once again with an almost haunting quality of fruit, ripe cherries, fresh strawberry and persistent raspberry, with a fresh spicy finish. Very persistent. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2023.

This riveting wine combines everything one might want in a top-flight Chambolle premier cru. There is much ripe mulberry and plum fruit; there is a bit of reduction at this stage, giving the wine a slightly sauvage, gamey note, but there is an impressive minerality and depth to the aroma. The texture is lush but does not lack tannic grip or density. The overall feel is driven strictly by the fruit – there is only one new cask for a total of seven. This wine should open after five to 10 years and drink brilliantly well for decades.

A slightly more deeply pitched, and more floral-suffused, nose reflects notes of poached plum, anise, lilac and cool exotic tea. The even finer textured middleweight plus flavors exude notably more minerality on the mildly austere, decidedly firm and strikingly long finale. This is terrific and very much worth checking out as well. *Outstanding*
