This is a consistent syrah that shows a light peppery edge to the blackberries and black cherries. Lots of fruit here, with a subtle touch of graphite. Very fine-grained on the palate with powdery tannins that extend the lengthy finish. Still generous, but restrained. One of the best ever? Syrah co-fermented with 3% viognier and blended with 7% cabernet sauvignon. Drink now or hold.

The 2022 Syrah Montes Alpha blends grapes from Apalta and Marchigüe. Aged in up to 30% new barrels, it nods to the Rhône with notes of spice, charcuterie and worn leather framed by a touch of oak. On the palate, this is plush and ample, with a slightly clingy finish and hints of aging. The 2022 is a classic Chilean-style Syrah, well-rooted in its tradition.
