A solid dense ruby colour with a powerful bouquet driven by both the intensity of the fruit and the new oak, one barrel of the two, and no stems. There is a lot of wine here in its solid earthy Pommard style, yet with class too. Excellent length, and so much fruit that it can eat up its oak easily. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Dec 2023.

The 2022 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru is matured in 50% new oak. This has a well-defined bouquet, the oak neatly integrated with pretty brambly red fruit. The medium-bodied palate has sappy red berry fruit and gentle grip, building towards a concentrated finish that caresses the senses. Very fine.

Once again there is a distinct floral character on the airy nose that is comprised by the cool essence of red currant, cherry, anise and violet. The relatively muscular yet refined, if not especially dense, middleweight flavors exude evident minerality on the vibrant and beautifully delineated if youthfully austere finale where a touch of warmth slowly emerges. There is excellent length though all competent examples of Rugiens, patience necessary. *Outstanding*
