One new barrel in two, 80% whole bunch vinification. Mid crimson red. Quite a dense bouquet, even a little spicy. Brisk red, raspberry and cherry, with a fine depth of flavour and notable persistence. Some Vosne style headiness with Nuits-St-Georges depth. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Dec 2023.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Meurgers 1er Cru, which includes 80% whole bunches, has a classically-styled bouquet of mainly black fruit commingling with sous-bois and rose bush aromas. It just needs a little more clarity. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, quite a structured Aux Murgers. It’s almost austere on the finish, but I appreciate the persistence and sapidity here.

Here too moderate wood sets off the spicier aromas of various red berries along with plenty of spice elements, in particular anise and clove. The richer, bigger-bodied and tautly muscular flavors possess a suave texture that contrasts with the impressively persistent and powerful finish that is youthfully austere while avoiding all but a trace of rusticity. This is also worth considering provided at least mid-term cellaring is envisioned. *Outstanding*
