Wonderful interplay of spicy oak with savory and blackberry aromas on the nose. Ample but beautifully integrated tannins on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Very long, firmly structured finish. From the top of the Cote du Py hill, matured in 10-year-old oak barrels. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py James, succulent and complex, is one of the best showings for the vintage for this famous lieu-dit. The nose is rich with grilled blackberries, licorice, cigar box and underbrush, followed by a medium to full-bodied, well-structured palate. The wine shows the most tannins of the range, chalky in texture, though integrated nicely into the layered core. Although strong on their own, the black-fruited flavors take a back seat to deeper, complex notions of iron and licorice on the mid-palate and back end. The wine glides along the palate with finesse, never feeling chunky, culminating in a lengthy, flavorful finish of high precision.
