Thierry Glantenay’s 2022 Volnay “Vieilles Vignes” is really an excellent example of the vintage. The bouquet is pure and precise, offering up scents of red and black cherries, a touch of pomegranate, pigeon, a complex base of dark soil tones, raw cocoa, vanillin oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and tangy in personality, with an excellent core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins and superb length and grip on the well balanced finish. Fine juice in the making.

The 2022 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is completely de-stemmed. Brambly red fruit and light tertiary scents on the nose that sports a minor reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, not a complex Volnay, but fresh with fine backbone and respectable mineralité on the finish. A well-crafted Volnay.
