Pierre Morin’s Premices is a classic example of Sancerre Rouge that isn’t trying to be anything else. Sourced from two plots, one on stony limestone and the other on white clay marls, the 2022 showcases the best of both terroirs. An aromatic profile of crunchy, vibrant red fruit comes on with real immediacy in notes of tart cherry, raspberry, and tart cranberry. Crushed rose petal and a dusty white pepper note segue to the chalky undertones that convey the terroir – bracing chalk and crushed gravel – but it stops just short of being rustic. Flavors of vibrant cherry are a bit darker than the aromatics, balanced by currant and more pure raspberry. The chalky foundation is really well executed, and the structured, firm tannins give clear voice to the clay-soil component of the wine. Proper, authentic Sancerre Pinot Noir right here.
