The 2022 Estate Pinot Gris is particularly pure and expressive this year. Spring frost affected some varieties in 2022, but winemaker Jason Lett says these old Pinot Gris vines, planted in 1979, are located at higher elevations and didn't suffer frost damage because the buds were not yet out. "The result is a higher proportion of old vines," he says, of the fruit in this 2022. It has detailed scents of green pear and apple blossom, cashews and bread dough. The light-bodied palate is layered and floral, a touch of textural grip balanced by mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, expressive finish.

No one champions Pinot Gris in the Willamette Valley the way Jason Lett does at Eyrie. This estate Pinot bottling brings aromas of dried flowers, almond cream and white pepper to the fore. The palate shows a rich texture a take on the wine that flies in the face of conventional crisp monotony. It's from some of Oregon's oldest vines. The palate is generous with ample ripe fruit framed by notes of toasted almonds and savoury dried herbs and mineral tones.

The entry is round and soothing, contrasted by a reverberation of acid-driven tension as white pit fruits and sour melon nuances swirl throughout. The 2022 tapers off with a pleasantly bitter twang twang as lime and liquid stone suggestions fade slowly.
