Showing fresh floral aromas and citrus fruit, the Donnafugata 2022 Etna Bianco Sul Vulcano remains a wine of brightness and luminosity. It offers pretty freshness and acidic focus with lemon and hints of passion fruit or grapefruit that give easy lift and buoyancy to the bouquet. Pretty saltiness also appears on the close, but the mouthfeel is easy and not especially long. What the wine gives up in complexity it offers in freshness and accessibility.

Composed of 100% Carricante, the 2022 Etna Bianco Sul Vulcano was aged in equal parts concrete (lined) and barrels. It has lovely fresh notes of pineapples, white peach, citrus oils, and fresh flowers. It has an outstanding, waxy texture reminiscent of Marcona almonds, with a savory profile and medium to full-bodied richness. It exhibits a great deal of savory character, length, and aging potential. In comparison, the Isolano feels more approachable out of the gate and is more floral.

The 2022 Etna Rosso Sul Vulcano lifts from the glass with floral perfumes complicated by shavings of blood orange and crushed wild berries. This is juicy and energetic with crisp red fruits that swirl across a crunchy mineral core. Long and gently tannic, the 2022 tapers off with edgy tannins offset by a bump of residual acidity and hints of blackcurrant linger on. I love how the Sul Volcano is both fun and serious.

Attractive rosé with pink nectarines, dried flowers and crushed stones on the nose. Medium-bodied, dry and crisp with chalky texture and tangy zestiness at the end. Fresh and crunchy. Drink now.

A creamy red, with dried cherry and strawberry fruit flavors and hints of rooibos tea, vanilla and blood orange peel underscored by subtle notes of loamy earth and iron. Fresh and balanced, with light, chalky tannins firming the plush finish. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Drink now through 2032. 11,750 cases made, 400 cases imported.
