“Pure, stylish, and delicious. Well nuanced...”
- Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Hailed as “a year to snap up” by Decanter’s Andy Howard, the 2022 Chablis vintage offered a more solar character than the classic austerity of 2021. The chiselled and refined 2022 Domaine Sébastien Dampt Côte de Lechet 1er Cru is a prime example of a classically styled Chablis accented by the vintage's brightness and approachability.
With family roots going back 150 years in Chablis, winemaker Sébastien Dampt has worked closely with his father Daniel and brother Vincent at Domaine Daniel Dampt, branching out to establish his own domaine under the same roof in 2007. Sébastien sources his Chablis from 8.5 hectares of estate vineyards with fifty percent of the holdings located in 1er crus, each of the parcels harvested by hand to ensure optimal quality and ripeness. Situated on steep slopes above the right bank of the Serein River, Sébastien's 0.7-hectare parcel in the Côte de Lechet 1er Cru averages 50 years of age, planted in Kimmeridgian marls covered with clay and fine, chalky limestone and enjoying a south-east exposure that encourages complete and early ripening.
From one of the region’s rising stars and a terrific value in white Burgundy at under $30, this 2022 expertly balances steely structure with ripe, succulent fruit. All stainless steel vinification and aging put the finishing touches on an elegant and pure expression of Chardonnay at an unbeatable price. |
