The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé “Vieilles Vignes” from Domaine de la Chapelle is a lovely example of this fine vintage. The bouquet shows nicely measured ripeness in its complex bouquet of apple, peach, orange zest, chalky soil tones, a touch of hazelnut, musky floral tones and a discreet framing of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a superb core of fruit, fine soil undertow, zesty acids and a long, very nicely balanced finish. Fine juice.

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Vielles Vignes was a bottle that I picked off the list at L'O des Vignes bistro in Fuissé and again at Justerini & Brooks' wine bar in London. It completely justified the score I awarded out of barrel. Vibrant and captivating on the nose, the aromatics seem to shimmer with nascent promise, touches of orchard fruit, Anjou pears and lemon rind. The palate has a steely intensity that makes it seem as if it comes from a cooler growing season, but there is plenty of concentration on the finish. Impressive (and delicious).
