A glowing purple with considerable depth. This has a joyous, almost rumbustious energy, mostly a pure red fruit up front, a little darker behind, a few wood tannins which do not interfere and excellent length. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Nov 2023.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru, which contains 40% whole-bunches, has a well-defined bouquet of crisp red berry fruit, crushed stone and wilted rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious, with fine tannins, silky-smooth texture and a precise, fine-boned finish. This is a very well-crafted Chambolle. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London.

Pungent aromas of wood and reduction render the nose tough to evaluate. On the plus side, the lacy and lilting flavors possess both a lovely sense of verve and definition and though they're not particularly concentrated, there mid-palate is highly refined which contrasts with the borderline chewy finish that exhibits outstanding length on the well-balanced finish. Like several of the wines in the range, this is going to take its time resolving the supporting tannins so patience advised. *Outstanding*
