Vines from 1925. So we go up (another) step. An imperial purple, very clear. The nose is majestic without being in any way super opulent. Everything is here, with Morgon depth and fine tannins, a superb wealth of dark red fruit yet still with the exceptional elegance of Daniel Bouland wines, while maintaining Morgon’s austere backbone. The trick to getting Morgon right is to maintain the austere structure while having the right balance of fruit, enough to cover the bones but not become heavy. Such a complete wine! Tasted Feb 2024.

The 2022 Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable offers up aromas of baked blackberries, prunes, lilac petals, brown spices, vine smoke and tinges of orange rind. The medium to full-bodied wine supports a layer of grilled purple fruits, evenly dispersed along the palate, with a firm backbone of chalky, coating tannins. Ripe acids infuse the wine with verve, accentuating the nuanced undertones of white pepper and sage, particularly evident on the finish. While already displaying great promise, this wine will benefit from a few more years of bottle aging to allow its various elements to fall into place.
