An aromatic wall of blackcap raspberries and blueberry fruit leather leaves quite an impression. There's also a good amount of cedar backing those fruit aromas. The medium-bodied wine's flavors of Bing cherries and blueberry jam, accented by a touch of white pepper, fill the mouth. The tannins are grippy, and the Merlot's acidity is modest.

Boisterous and dark-fruited, the aromas speak to boysenberry pie and iron, and the palate is overcast with cascading black fruits, dusty tannins, blackberries, dark chocolate, and mint. There's a lingering mineral finish that enlivens the dense black fruited palate.

High-toned red fruit coats the palate of the 2022 Merlot Canoe Ridge Estate, a hearty, full-bodied wine and an exemplary showcase for one of Washington State's great varieties. The tannins are supple and lengthy. Drink now through 2030.
