Delicately fragrant, with purple flowers, berry fruit and touches of exotic spices. Sleek and svelte on the palate, this has a calm confidence about it, the flavours driving in one line from start to finish. I love the chalky texture and the purity of fruit. Gentle, not pushed too hard, with plenty of easy enjoyment to be had. Fresh, cool and moreish. Really overdelivers for its price.

Perfumed, with aromas of smoke, currants, grilled citrus, dried flowers and roasted herbs. Juicy and firm on the palate, with a medium to full body and a fruit-forward finish that shows herbal freshness at the end. Already approachable, but should get better in two more years.

Powerful with depth, juice and precision, plenty of volume through the mid palate, and the tannins are velvety, laced with cocoa bean, sweet damson, cumin, balsamic, white pepper, rose petals, graphite, sandalwood, great quality. The 2022 from Laure Canu and team at Cantemerle is a confident blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 20% Merlot and 5% each Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. This suggests great harmony on the nose, with a delicately leathery edge to the fruit, which is all desiccated red cherry, blackcurrant, liquorice and smoke. It feels aromatically coherent, and the palate only reinforces this first impression, with a charming integration of dark fruit, powdery tannins, ripe phenolic substance and fresh acidity. Lovely structure and substance here, in a finely composed Cantemerle, with plenty of powdery, ripe and gently spicy tannins in the finish and length. A top result. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is 13.5%.
