The Mazzei 2020 Poggio Badiola is an informal blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Merlot. The wine offers the bright fruit and acidity of the first grape with plenty of the cherry softness of the second. Basic primary tones are followed by blue flower and crushed aspirin. This is an entry-level wine that is food-friendly and fresh, with a short finish. Some 240,000 bottles were released.

A juicy red marked by bright cherry and raspberry fruit. Open and easy, with light tannins lining the moderately long finish, this is otherwise balanced. Sangiovese and Merlot. Drink now. 20,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

Fresh raspberries, violets and blood oranges. Light-bodied with crisp acidity, light framed and crunchy tannins and a clean, fruity finish. Drink now.

The 2020 Poggio Badiola is a soft, easygoing red to drink now and over the next handful of years, while the flavors remain bright. This Sangiovese-based blend should be a good value.
