A restrained and austere wine with aromas of eucalyptus, black currants, cloves, sweet violets and cocoa powder. Full-bodied and concentrated, with firm, velvety, fine-grained tannins, a lot of energy and a refreshing finish. Tight, youthful and long, with a tobacco aftertaste. 100% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

Silky, aromatic and wonderfully vivid, the 2022 Matarocchio (Cabernet Franc) is impressive from start to finish. Soaring Franc aromatics meld into a deep, plush core of red-toned fruit. Polished tannins shape the effortless mid-palate and finish. The 2022 continues to grow in bottle, a remarkable achievement for a wine born in a very difficult year. Cabernet Franc speaks with tremendous pedigree. The 2022 is just sublime. Sadly, production is down sharply to just 3,000 bottles, as opposed to the more typical 8,000-9,000.

All Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Matarocchio pours a bright, saturated red with magenta highlights and is initially reserved before opening to reveal notes of cassis, blueberry, preserved flowers, polished leather, tobacco, sweet herbs, and vanilla. Full-bodied and richly textured, it combines a lush, coating mouthfeel with underlying freshness and structure. The palate is layered and decadent, yet balanced by a surprising lift of acidity and a long finish. It offers tremendous finesse within its decadent frame. Drink 2027-2050.
