A unique wine showing deep and beautiful ripe cherries and plums with limestone and chalk. It’s medium- to full-bodied with fruit, brightness and energy that make it light and ripe at the same time. Creamy texture at the end. Gorgeous finish. Drinkable now, but will age beautifully. Drink or hold.

While tasting Antinori’s three new UGA-specific bottlings, longtime head winemaker Renzo Cotarella explained that the idea wasn't simply to make more wine. Instead, the objective was to make wines with more tangible identity. San Sano has this in spades, along with immense enjoyability – which is just as important. The brilliantly focused 2022 is overtly scented with resinous herbs, lemon balm, spicy pepper and flint. Precisely sculpted and fantastically tight, the palate is a harmonious tour de force of fleshy concentration and energy. Smoke, citrus zest and liquorice are entwined with ripe red and black berries. Tannins flex sinewy muscles and the underlying salinity lingers.

The 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Fattoria San Sano is a powerhouse. Inky dark fruit, graphite, liquorice, spice and mocha infuse the 2022 with tremendous textural richness. All of the saline energy typical of this site emerges with air, but the 2022 is a wine mostly of forward fruit and bold textures. The San Sano is aged in 12HL cask, an approach that works so wll here. I can't wait to see how it ages.
