There's a menthol waft accompanying grilled rosemary and cool black fruits. Wow! In the mouth it's intense, juicy and succulent, offering precise dark fruits and chalky tannins which coat the mouth, while an extraordinary dimension of macchia and lavender emerges on the mid-palate. Generous and inviting. Sister estate of Tenuta Meraviglia, this Superiore is vinified in cement then mature in large untoasted casks for 24 months.

Made mostly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in a supporting role, the organic Tenuta le Colonne 2021 Bolgheri Superiore was shut down initially during my tasting. Hopefully, enough time has passed by now for the wine to fully stretch its legs. It offers a medium-plus texture with dark fruit flavors and black plum that are not over-extracted or too thick. Despite the shyness of the bouquet, the wine does a good job of achieving balance overall.

This is pure and exudes black currant, blackberry, cedar, licorice, black olive tapenade and mineral flavors. Open-knit, charming and complex, with fine balance, length and grip. The oak is discreet, and this red is enticing. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2033. 3,750 cases made, 1,125 cases imported.

Intense and precise, leafy nose of dried eucalyptus with super-restrained yet well-defined blueberries and integrated toastiness. More elegant than powerful on the full-bodied palate with leafy and clove character, youthful yet velvety tannins and refreshing acidity. Leafy aftertaste. Drink or hold.
