Also a youthful dark ruby/magenta color, the 2021 Barbaresco Albesani reveals impressive depth in its layered notes of preserved red cherries, cedar, dusty earth, potpourri, roses, and raspberries. It’s medium-bodied but expands on the palate with a velvety texture and offers ripe tannins, seamless acidity, and wonderful length. It’s a very impressive and detailed wine to drink over the next 20 years.

This powerful red boasts cherry, strawberry, rose, earth, tar and underbrush aromas and flavors. The savory notes emerge as this builds to a long, solidly built finish. Shows excellent harmony, texture and staying power, with a minty finish. Best from 2029 through 2048. 330 cases made, 100 cases imported.

Bright and fresh with notes of red berries, dried rose hips and asphalt. Medium-bodied. It has a meaty structure with very fine tannins and bright acidity. Shows tension and focus. Spicy at the end. Try after 2026.

In the bottle with the cream-colored label, the Massolino 2021 Barbaresco Albesani shows redcurrant and tart berry aromas. It also has a hint of something metallic with rusty nail or tin can. The wine reveals a fluid personality with a few exciting aromatic changes along the way. That versatility bodes well for its future evolution. This is a 4,000-bottle release.

The 2021 Barbaresco Albesani is a super-classic wine that is going to need time to come around. It possesses notable structure and the understated depth that is common of Barbaresco. Time in the glass brings out scents of herbs, white pepper, autumn leaves and spice. All this needs is time in bottle.

Firm and structured, this wine boasts dark ripe fruits that draw the attention as aromas of blue violets lead deeper into the glass. Juicy dark cherries flavors form the core of the palate as drying blackberries, and hints of plum weave across the firm and tannic palate that is lifted by mouthwatering acidity. Elegant and savory flavors offer a respite from the richness of the fruit on the finish. Drink from 2026
