The Star-of-Bethlehem Flower Block is one of my favorite bottlings of pinot noir from Kelley Fox, and the 2021 version is yet another dazzling wine made from this very special parcel in the Maresh Vineyard. The bouquet is pure, red fruity and marvelously soil-driven, offering up scents of strawberries, cherries, beetroot, a complex base of soil tones, mustard seed, woodsmoke and a topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and beautifully defined by its soil undertow, with a sappy core of fruit, suave, fine-grained tannins, tangy acids and a long, complex and seamlessly balanced, dancing finish. This is a stunning wine.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard Star Of Bethlehem Flower Block pours a bright transparent ruby and is wild and spicy, with pure notes of grenadine, fresh pine, and candied roses. Medium-bodied, with ripe tannins. It offers a richer texture, with a hint of purple flowers shining through. It has a bit more of a grounded feel, but it’s inviting and long. Drink 2023-2034.

Translucent ruby, lifted and soulful, the 2021 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard Star of Bethlehem Flower Block wafts up with an airy split pine and rosemary complementing wild strawberries. This is a model of purity, perfumed within with lifted acidity and crisp red fruits flowing beneath rosy inner florals. It tapers off long yet finessed, leaving a staining of tart raspberry and tart citrus nuances. Unfortunately, the 2021 is the last bottling of the Star of Bethlehem Flower Block.
