The 2021 Riesling Heiligenstein was fermented and aged in large 1,250- to 6,000-liter barrels. A slight notion of petrichor precedes gentle citrus notes with stony savoriness. The palate comes in with smooth depth, delving immediately into rock but buffered by yeast. Supple citrus notes play aromatically on this unusual junction of stone, citrus and yeast, presenting a supple, almost creamily smooth and gentle picture of the Permian sandstone on which this fruit was grown. This is a gorgeous synthesis, with a lasting stony echo. (Bone-dry)

Loimer's 2021 Ried Heiligenstein 1ÖTW Riesling is clear, very fine and terroir-accented on the nose that shows ripe, elegant and delicately spicy as well as aromatic fruit. Dense, tightly meshed and complex on the palate, with finesse and elegance and a saline, long-lasting finish, this is a very delicate and already enjoyable yet also intense and complex Heiligenstein. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg, September 2023.

A very winey and a well-structured expression of the famous Heiligenstein site, this has discreet white peach and candied lemon fruit. The very long, salty finish pulls you back for more of this beautifully balanced and impeccably crafted wine. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold.
