Crafted with exceptional quality fruit from the windswept high-altitude vineyards of western Sonoma County, the 93 pt. 2021 Flowers Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and the 93 pt. 2021 Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir are a dynamic duo of cool climate wines from an outstanding vintage, structured to deliver enjoyment for years to come and now offered at an unbeatable price.
Until the arrival of Joan and Walt Flowers in 1990, the rugged Sonoma Coast region high above the Pacific Ocean was long considered inhospitable for growing just about anything let alone grapes, but the Flowers' critically acclaimed wines established the region as a top appellation for producing cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Nearly three decades later, Quintessa owner Augustin Huneeus forged a partnership with the Flowers, creating an influx of resources and a renewed focus on quality which included hiring Domaine Dujac winemaker Jeremy Seysses as a consultant. Sourced from sustainably farmed fruit from several western Sonoma Coast vineyards including Camp Meeting and fermented with native yeast, the richly textured 2019 Flowers Chardonnay was aged in 18% new French oak for 11 months and a further 3 months on the lees in stainless steel before bottling, yielding bright fruit flavors with a distinctive minerality, described as “very elegant and refined” by critic James Suckling. Produced in “a benchmark vintage for California Pinot” according to the Wine Spectator, “with wines showing power, finesse and the structure,” the energetic 93 pt. Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was sourced from select family-owned vineyards on the Sonoma Coast as well as the Sea View Ridge estate and aged in 100% French Oak (18% new) for 10 months, offering fresh, earthy red fruit balanced with ripe, supple tannins, summed up by the Wine Enthusiast’s Virginie Boone as “lengthy, bold and balanced.”
Ready to enjoy now and over the next handful of years, the beautifully crafted 93 pt. 2021 Flowers Chardonnay and 2021 Flowers Pinot Noir showcase the appealing freshness and bright acidity of their Sonoma Coast origins, a terrific opportunity to secure a cache of two outstanding wines from a top vintage at bargain pricing. |
