Sweet, ripe blackberries and dried figs open the nose, followed by chocolate and coffee, and finally pencil shavings and top soil. The palate stays juicy with berries, plums and figs, plus that sophisticated chocolate sweetness, but there is also more room for sanguine, meaty, earthy notes to introduce a strong umami current, which is fortified by chewy tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d’Avola, Tannat and more from vineyards in southwestern Sicily. Soft-fruited plum, blackcurrant, balsamic herbs, spice and a touch of chocolate lead to a lifted, vibrant and saline finish with some grippy tannins. Delicious, and rather unique. 24 months in French oak then 24 months in bottle.
