Aged for 12 months in 500-litre French tonneaux and 12 months in 300hl Slavonian casks, this is a deep, concentrated Rosso that will benefit from time in bottle, but the nose is already an extraordinary combination of burnt orange, profound black fruit, caraway seed and toasted brown bread, with abundant acidity and a substantial tannic structure. The impressive wines of Andrea Costanti attract justified praise. A barrel selection of the already-extraordinary Rosso di Montalcino from this meticulous estate, Vermiglio ages for an additional year to bring the total to two. The name Vermiglio (‘vermilion’) was used for the estate's non-Brunello wines prior to the Rosso di Montalcino DOC being ratified in 1983.
