In the bottle with the black label, the Tenuta Regaleali Tasca d'Almerita 2020 Sicilia Cabernet Sauvignon Vigna San Francesco has a green side with caper and garden herb at the back of blackberry and baked plum. That is exactly the same signature I encounter each year that I taste this wine, although this vintage is heavier. The vines were planted in 1985 at a high 550 meters in elevation. This Sicilian Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in Allier and Tronçais oak with 100% new barrels for 18 months. This hot-vintage wine ends with soft intensity and some bitter tannins, giving the wine a somewhat bulky finish. Production is 25,000 bottles.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Vigna San Francesco is a spice-box on the nose, with an array of dried flowers, lavender, incense, clove and red currant forming its enticing bouquet. It’s velvety smooth with an elegant wave of ripe red and black fruits that ooze across the palate like molten chocolate—all kept in balance by a core of brisk acidity. A coating of fine tannins remains as hints of licorice and sage linger on, leaving behind a structured but remarkably fresh sensation. The 2020 will require cellaring to integrate its oak, yet I expect it to emerge as a seductress.
