Our latest find is the sensationally overperforming 2020 Moulin du Cadet St-Émilion, a remarkable wine of "terrific purity" with a "gorgeous perfume" as Jeb Dunnuck notes in his review of 94+ points. He's not the only, as James Suckling, Antonio Galloni, and Neal Martin have all chimed in with glowing compliments. Sourced from a small parcel on the upper part of the St-Émilion plateau, the 2020 is a classic example of the ideal balance that Merlot can achieve on the right limestone terroir. "Hedonistic yet without compromising delineation or terroir definition," it's a quintessential Right Bank beauty in every sense, from a vintage that really brings out the best in this small, under-the-radar property.
All Merlot from a tiny parcel on the upper plateau, the 2020 Château Moulin Du Cadet has a fresher, elegant, yet nicely concentrated and medium-bodied profile as well as a gorgeous perfume of red and black raspberries, tobacco, peppery herbs, and truffle. Perfectly balanced, with fine yet building tannins and terrific purity, it needs just 2-4 years of bottle age and will evolve for 15+.

Vibrant acids and clean mineral notes give the 2020 its vibrant, saline personality. This is very nicely done. In a word: terrific.

Notes of cassis and plum skins with licorice, cocoa and mocha. Hints of walnut, too. Medium- to full-bodied with tight yet polished tannins that last for minutes. Delicious and juicy velvet-coated dark fruit with tension and length. Toned and lingering finish with lots of energy to it. Try after 2026.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Moulin du Cadet is redolent of juicy black cherries, mulberries, and boysenberry preserves with an earthy undercurrent and nuances of star anise and wood smoke. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves, lifted by a lively backbone, finishing long and plush.
