Aromas of ripe dark berries, dried herbs, lavender, cocoa and dried orange peel. Medium- to full-bodied with juicy tannins and a savory fruit character. It’s structured with a nicely filled, opulent palate and toned, lingering finish. Try after 2025.

Juicy and supple, with lovely fleshy tannins - not chewy but mouthfilling with a chalky texture. I also really like the cool blue fruits and salty touches. It's not the most detailed right now, but is fresh and feisty. Bold and characterful, perhaps stops a little short, the texture just taking away from the fruit persistency, but this has structure and feels well worked. It's dark and brooding, the liquorice is apparent, but this will be delicious.

Lots of cassis, ripe berries, spicy wood, and flowery incense notes emerge from the 2020 Château Laroze, a plump, forward, nicely concentrated 2020 with plenty of tannins, good overall balance, and outstanding length. It's going to take 4-5 years for these tannins to integrate, but this is another impressive wine from this incredible vintage.

The 2020 Laroze has a more decadent bouquet than its peers, with notes of black cherries, boysenberry jam and a touch of fig. It manages to retain freshness and delineation, ripe and generous with ample grip and refinement on the finish. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and well-judged acidity. It's very promising and performs above expectations. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Shows the warmth of the vintage, with a plum sauce– and blackberry reduction–filled core leading the way, all wrapped in black licorice and Black Forest cake notes. Flashes of violet and apple wood enliven the finish just enough. For the hedonist crowd. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2036. 8,125 cases made.
