The 2020 La Chapelle de Haut-Bages Libéral is a gorgeous second wine. Racy and supple, with no hard edges, the 2020 offers up copious dark red cherry/plum fruit intermingled with sweet floral notes. The 2020 was aged 60% in French oak and 40% in concrete, which adds notable purity and freshness. This is beautifully done.

This wine is structured, with great black fruits alongside swathes of tannins. This second wine of Haut-Bages Libéral is rich and needs aging. Drink from 2026. Organic and biodynamic.

Clear, perfumed, herbal red fruit on the nose which is forward, aromatic and expressive. Shiny and clear, a lovely punch of red fruits on the palate - cherries, strawberries, raspberries - that have a pristine quality. Energetic, very strict and lean fruit, mouthwatering acidity and a real mineral undertone. Crisp, with bite, but also then a creamy undercurrent and almost powdery tannins. It’s on the bold side, a wide frame with a touch of heat and spice that lingers around the edges but this will settle. I love the beautiful, pretty, appealing and welcoming red fruits which are partnered by clove, liquorice, aniseed, cola, coffee and tobacco.
