I often think that perhaps I have underrated the Dauvissat premier crus in the cellars at this time of year, after they have been assembled in tank, once I get to the grand crus that are still resting in cask and still showing each and every facet of their beauty. The 2020 les Preuses is a stunning wine chez Dauvissat, offering up a youthful and breathtaking nose of lemon, a touch of sweet grapefruit, pear, chalky, oyster shell, iodine, orange zest, a hint of paraffin and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and racy in personality, with a stunning core of fruit, a kaleidoscope of supporting minerality, snappy acids, laser-like focus and a very, very long, very complex finish of simply perfect balance. Magic.

Offering up aromas of orange oil, white peach, jasmine, oyster shell, wet stones and struck flint, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses is full-bodied, ample and layered, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a long, intensely mineral finish. As ever, this wine is more floral-mineral than it is fruity, standing out for its ethereal personality in contradistinction with the blockier, more muscular Les Clos.

The 2020 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru is much too young, but I can’t resist. Rich and beautifully layered in the glass, with striking intensity, the 2020 is flat-out gorgeous. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous saline, white pepper and citrus overtones. I would love to own this.

A little more to the colour, oily and saline at the same time. Perhaps yellower fruit. Delicious body, and actually more harmonious on the palate than the nose suggested. More white fruit in the end than yellow, and with a wonderful weight! Drink from 2028-2040. Tasted Jun 2022.

From stony, pebbly soils, this is a precise, reserved Les Preuses which slowly builds on the palate, revealing a rich structure and increased mineral notes following a delicate start. A classic grand cru but keep it for several years before opening.

A gorgeously elegant and wafting nose is perhaps the purest of the entire range with its essence of lightly smoky mineral reduction, oyster shell, quinine and spicy poached pear wisps. The texture of the stony middleweight flavors immediately reminds one of just how classy Preuses is when it's 'on' and this was on with its caressing mouthfeel that is refined to the point of finesse, yet the finish is vibrant, detailed and hugely long. This has the potential to be one of the wines of the vintage. In sum, this beauty is strikingly good with the potential to match.
