Once a protege of legendary Rhone winemaker Andre Romero of Domaine Soumade, Georges Perrot has forged his own path in Rasteau over the last two decades, crafting aromatic and bright wines in the fresh and elegant style pioneered by his mentor while forgoing the region’s over-extracted and often rustic style. Establishing Domaine la Colliere in 2002, Georges and his wife Delphine organically farm 30 plots spanning 25 hectares in the shadow of the famed Dentelles de Montmirail in Vaucluse , sourcing the 2020 La Fontaine from steep, south facing vineyards at altitudes around 160 meters with vines ranging over 75 years of age planted in pebbly soils rich in blue clay. A blend of mostly Grenache with smaller amounts of Mourvedre and Syrah, Georges ferments the grapes separately in stainless steel tanks, aging them for 15 months in custom made cement tanks except for the Mourvedre which goes into massive demi-muid barrels, yielding fresh, polished fruit layered with harmonious tannins on a long and balanced finish and promising to age gracefully for upwards of a decade.
