Attractive aromas of black cherries and blackberries with dark chocolate, black licorice, cedar and wet earth. Some raw mushroom, too. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine and slightly chewy tannins. Lingering finish. 53% cabernet sauvignon and 47% merlot. Drink from 2025.

Savoury bilberry, loganberry and raspberry frut, tomato leaf, liqourice, logangerry, soft but present tannins that caress the fruit, adding a welcome extra layer of interest. Graphite, crayon, mint leaf, grilled sandalwood, this enjoyable, not trying too hard to be overly serious, will age well but no need to wait the full 10 years. Harvest September 10 to 25. Valentin Perrot technical director along with cellar master Christian Alquie. 40% new oak.

A strong effort from this improving estate, the 2020 Camensac reveals aromas of rich cherries, cassis and truffle framed by a deft touch of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and impressively concentrated, it's attractively pure, with powdery tannins and a vanillin-inflected finish. Give it a little time to digest its élevage, and it will offer excellent drinking.

The 2020 Château de Camensac has a reserved nose, with damp earth and light tobacco scents that unfurl with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with raspberry and wild strawberry on the entry, admirable weight on the mid-palate and fine backbone and grip on the finish. This is a well-crafted Bordeaux with the substance to age. Given the price, this represents great value. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
