From vines up to 150 years-old grown in the contrada of Guardiola, in Passopisciaro, this is a fragrant Nerello Mascalese full of potpourri and violets. In the mouth it's broad and sapid, with a flinty attack, zesty acidity and a veil of grippy tannins easing into beautiful black cherry, blue fruits and Parma violets. Ferrous, earthy and saline, it ends with a delightful squeeze of blood orange. A complex and really appealing red.

Alta Mora's top-shelf red is the 2020 Etna Rosso Guardiola. This limited release of 3,000 bottles is made with fruit from exceptionally old vines (up to 160 years old) on their own roots in bush-trained vines placed on steep stone terraces at 900 meters in elevation. Guardiola is one of the best-performing growing sites on the volcano, and it always shows an especially polished mineral character. The wine sees 20 days of skin contact during fermentation and ages in large oak casks. This wine has complexity and depth, but ultimately it adheres to the accessible and mid-weight identity of the vintage.
