Established by two Swiss families in 1997, Vina Robles has been a top grower in Paso Robles for over two decades, their 1,800 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards located in diverse parcels across the AVA from the foggy coastal mountains west of Paso Robles to the dry, rugged slopes east of the main highway. Sourcing the fruit for the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from two distinctly different terroirs, the Huerhuero Vineyard is planted at an elevation from 830 to 1,030 ft. above sea level near the Templeton Gap, with moderating Pacific Ocean breezes preserving the grapes' acidity, while the southerly Creston Valley Vineyard is planted on rolling hills with the perfect exposure for optimal ripening, each contributing to the depth and complexity of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand-harvesting the fruit and employing strict selection both in the vineyard and winery, winemaker Kevin Willenborg aged most of the Cabernet Sauvignon in French oak for 8 months with smaller amounts aged in American and Hungarian oak barrels, then blended in a small amount of Petit Verdot before aging the 2019 Vina Robles Cab for 12 months in barrel, preserving the freshness of the opulent fruit while and yielding a plush texture with well-integrated, silky tannins that promise longevity.
