A big, bold wine from the estate vineyard in southern St. Helena, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon G.B. Crane Vineyard weighs in at 15.7% alcohol on the label, but it carries it well. Yes, it's super ripe in its black cherries and dark chocolate notes, its considerable weight and richness and its supple, melted tannins, but any heat is subsumed under the wine's substance. No, it won't be for classicists, but it is a hedonist's delight. I suggest drinking it on the young side, while the fruit still carries the day.

The 2019 G.B. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, with 4% Merlot and 4% Petite Sirah in the blend, is deep garnet-purple in color. It is a little closed to begin, with primary scents of cassis, wild blueberry, and cedar before revealing a subtle undercurrent of tilled soil, black olives, and Indian spices. The palate is big, super-concentrated, and full-on full-bodied, delivering plush tannins and soft acidity, finishing long and opulent.

A lot of richness and intensity to its dark-fruited character, with notes of chocolate, baking spices and earthy undertones. Full-bodied with compact, velvety tannins and a lingering, creamy aftertaste. Succulent and deep. Drink or hold.
